BC Networks set to honor Professor R. G. Jimoh with "Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) Champion Award"

Professor Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Information Technology, academic excellence, and human capital development in Nigeria will be recognized and honored with the BC Networks "Digital Skills 4 Youth Champion Award" for his unwavering support for youth development and his strong commitment to advancing digital inclusion coming June 6, 2026 at the 13 years anniversary of the company and commissioning of its ultra modern Digital Skills Innovation Hub.


Professor Jimoh is a distinguished scholar and ICT leader, a Fellow of the Institute for Classical Entrepreneurship, a Registered Professional Information Technology Practitioner with the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), and a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).


He obtained his B.Sc. in Computer Science (Second Class Upper Division) from the University of Ilorin, his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan in 2006, and his Ph.D. in Information Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2010. In 2018, he made history as the first Professor of Computer Science produced by the University of Ilorin, just eight years after earning his Ph.D.


Professor Jimoh began his professional career with Data Processing Maintenance and Services (DPMS), an IBM Business Partner, before joining the University of Ilorin in January 2004. Through dedication and excellence, he rose through the ranks to become a Full Professor of Computer Science in 2018.


Over the years, he has held several key leadership positions, including:

  • Deputy Director, Ilorin Business School (2012–2015)

  • Acting Head, Department of Computer Science (2013–2015)

  • Acting Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (2017–2019)

  • Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (2019–2021)


In August 2023, he was appointed Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) Directorate, the ICT arm of the University of Ilorin, where he has led transformative initiatives that have significantly modernized the university’s digital ecosystem.


Under his leadership, several landmark achievements have been recorded, including:

  • Strategic restructuring of the ICT unit into specialized sub-units for improved efficiency

  • Migration of millions of records to modern cloud infrastructure, enhancing reliability and security

  • Deployment of an integrated enterprise portal system for seamless data management

  • Automation of over 70% of core university processes, improving service delivery

  • Implementation of automated transcript systems, reducing turnaround time

  • Capacity building programs to strengthen ICT skills among staff

  • Driving a full-scale digital transformation of the university environment


These accomplishments reflect his strong leadership, strategic vision, and commitment to innovation and sustainable ICT development.

Professor Jimoh was recently appointed the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Muhammad Kamalud-deen University, Ogidi, Ilorin, further affirming his reputation as a visionary academic leader.


An accomplished researcher, he has supervised 18 Ph.D. and 52 M.Sc. graduates in Computer Science and has authored over 120 scholarly publications in reputable journals, books, and conference proceedings (SCOPUS h-index: 15; Google Scholar h-index: 22). He has also received numerous research grants, scholarships, and awards for his contributions to IT and Computer Science education in Nigeria.

Professor Jimoh has served in various national capacities, including as a member of the Governing Council of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and as a National Executive Member of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
